I had the idea for
the plot of Ghosts back in 2006, however this would have
been too ambitious to film on my meagre budget of money and time,
so I stripped the plot down to the version of Ghosts produced
in 2008.
The filming of Ghosts took place over three days in February
2008. We were very lucky with the weather, especially for the time
of year. We did have limited daylight hours, but the outdoor
scenes were filmed without a hitch. There were no downpours to ruin
the days. We were of vague interest to locals out walking their
dogs in the woodland, the owners stopped and stared as they tried
to fathom what we were up to.
We were not so lucky with technology. Gremlins bugged the
production in a number of ways. The lighting lamp bulb blew,
and we didn't have a replacement on hand. The stereo microphone
we intended to use was not available so we had to make do with a
mono microphone, which was so so indoors but unpredictable out of
doors. One outdoor scene had to be dropped because the dialogue
was too quiet. One of the two camcorders developed a weird
fault rendering it useless for the duration, which meant outdoor
battery powered recording time was halved. And the most bizarre
glitch was that the 1960s Russian alarm clock refused to tick when
being filmed. The tick tocks were added in post production.
Nevertheless, like all amateur films, everything was recorded as
best as could be and the three days were an enjoyable, if not bizarre,
time for all.
The video editing was done on an iMac whenever I could find the
time and was completed in late April 2008.
With
the video edit complete it was time for the sound effects, patches
and music dub to be done. Originally the plan was to re-use the
theme tune used on The Plague of Lychwood and Flight
of the Daleks, however Joe Gooch offered a new rendition, so
this was used instead.
The soundtrack was used using music originally composed by Joe Gooch
for the Shock! Horror! Probe! film Shine Dog.
Finally Graham Quince of Shivering
Cactus helped put together a keepsake DVD for the Cast and Crew
only. |
