I nearly renamed it The Curse Of Lychwoe. The Plague Of
Lychwood has had two false starts, once in 1998 and again in
2000, both times a few scenes were filmed and in the case of the
2000 version some of those scenes were shot in Sydney, Australia.
In 2002 I decided to try again, this time it all held together.
The main cast was made up of experienced amateur
actors and performers such as A F Harrold, Helen Whittaker, Grahame
Jones and Adrian Czajkowski. The Cyberman costume ended up being
donned by three people, Sam Smitter, Matthew Edwards and myself
for it's last appearance.
The Doctor's costume in TPOL was based
on one of the posters by Toulouse-Lautrec featuring the conferencier
Aristide Bruant, conveniently not a lot different from A F Harrold's
normal day to day dress.
The Police Box prop that the Doctor appears
in at the start and end of TPOL was previously used in the
stage production of Fury From The Deep at Portsmouth in 2002.
The previous two versions had a lot of props
made for them and I recycled some of those for the 2002 version.
The Cyberman costume which appears in TPOL was made specifically
for the 2002 version. I had made enquires for original TV costumes
to borrow but didn't get very far so instead I made something new
that would appear to be a stage of Cyber development between the
stories The Tenth Planet and The Moonbase.
The Cybermat is also to my own design, the original
was built by Sarah-Jane Brophy, a design model maker. I built five
dummy versions of the original to use as stunt Cybermats in the
original version of TPOL. One of those stunt Cybermats appears
in episode two and three. The prop got very smoked during filming
and most of it's feelers melted.
The title sequences were created by Graham Quince,
who also did the creeping blue Neurotrope X veins.
The theme tune was performed by Joe Gooch, a
member of the London rock band Mellowsun. The incidental music was
painstakingly composed by Anne-Marie Czajkowski, another talented
musician with a few homages to DW soundtracks gone by thrown in
for good measure. If you'd like to hear some of Anne-Marie's compositions
including some of the soundtrack from The Plague Of Lychwood,

We filmed TPOL between April and June
2002 in Berkshire. The production was edited together on an iMac
using iMovie 1 between May and July. It will be freely available
for download for a limited period from September 2002.
